How do I get involved with StandBy?
Fill in an audition application form HERE and we’ll take it from there and see whether we’re the right fit for each other. This applies to all studios.
Are the studios easy to find?
Yes, we’re located in Sheffield City Centre at 121 Eyre Street, S1 4QW (in between Jury’s Inn Hotel and Matilda Street carpark).
Is parking available?
Yes, there is free parking available at the back of the building, next door to the Jury’s Inn Hotel’s car park.
Do I have to have acting experience to come to StandBy, I’ve only done a school play?
No, however you must be committed to the training. We are for you if you have a strong interest in method acting and are thinking of pursuing a career in acting or already have worked professionally. The training is challenging and intense to prepare you thoroughly for the industry. There is prep work that you are expected to complete away from the studios each week and we give an allowance of three absences only per term. At the auditions we are looking for potential.
How much do the programmes cost?
The Adult 12 week programmes are £287, The Young People’s 12 week programmes are £230 and There are 4 payment options available to help you find what suits you better financially.
Do you offer refunds?
Our courses are non-refundable. If you would like to leave a programme you must give 6 weeks written notice and all payments must be up to date up until that point. If you have paid in full unfortunately no re-fund will be granted.
Are you a legitimate company?
Yes, our Artistic Director Louise O’Leary trained at The Arden School of Theatre, Manchester and took further training at The Actors Studio, New York and still works as a professional actress. We have strong connections to films companies in Sheffield.
Louise holds an enhanced DBS certificate, which is on display in the studios and we are fully insured. Any freelance staff that are employed go through rigorous checks including references and are only offered work if an enhanced (in date) DBS certificate is provided. We only employ people we know, like and trust and who have sufficient training/experience in the industry.

Can you help me get into the industry?
Yes, we support all of our acting students dreams/goals. Support is offered on how to get into the industry. Occasionally castings are sent to us (please note we are a studio, not an agency), which are forwarded to the relevant actors. We also have specialist masterclasses with casting directors to help you build up your connections, although we make no guarantee of success for anyone. This is an effort based industry and your success depends on the effort you put into it.
